Background:	OsZDS is a ζ-carotene desaturase localized to plastoglobules in plastids. It catalyzes the conversion of ζ-carotene to lycopene via two consecutive desaturations, a key step in carotenoid biosynthesis. Mutants show albino phenotypes with defective chloroplasts and undetectable carotenoids.
